Research Network Meetings2nd September 2008 Research Meeting Edge Hill University Imcore is a European funded project that Sefton is a Partner in (start date May 2008 for 42 months). Within the funding that Sefton is drawing down is an element (circa £40K) that is available to fund collaborative working between academic partners and practitioners that will assist in the development of solutions to problems under three key themes: education, adaptation and prediction of future coastal evolution. Under the education theme a qualified teacher within Sefton will be developing educational materials that relate to the curriculum as well as more general interpretive material (Partners from the Sefton Coast Partnership will also be involved in this), it would be expected that the academic partner(s) would collaborate in this process to facilitate the optimum outcome. The primary theme for education will be the dynamic coast although it is possible to adapt this. Adaptation relates specifically to adaptation related to climate change although in reality this will be difficult to distinguish from adaptation to more general coastal change, the output from this process should be an adaptation plan. Again Partners from the Sefton Coast Partnership will be involved in this process but the primary focus of this will be upon coastal processes, their potential impact and how to adapt to it. Prediction of future coastal evolution is relatively self-explanatory in that it relates to improving our confidence in understanding future scenarios providing an improved basis for decision making. Within other Partner areas (within the European Project) this collaborative arrangement is between one academic institution and one practitioner, however due to existing arrangements here on the Sefton coast it would seem inappropriate to limit this to one academic Partner. Given this it is proposed that Academic Partners in association with Practitioner Partners develop proposals for collaborative work that can be delivered to support an aspect within the three themes above. The proposal must have a benefit to the practitioner, require the skills that the academic can supply and should be costed. The proposals will be presented on the 2nd of September 2008 (the day after the Sefton Coast Conference) where they can be discussed and will subsequently be considered by a panel to decide upon which should be funded from this pot of money. If you are unable to attend the meeting the proposal should be submitted prior to the meeting so that there is an opportunity to discuss it on the day. Any in-kind or cash contributions to the work should be identified as these might influence the considerations. The places to this meeting are limited to 50 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. To register for this meeting please contact coastal defence at:
