Policies - Coastal Groups

Coastal Groups are typically groups of operating authorities and other relevant interested parties established to oversee the Shoreline Management Plan process. Because of their voluntary nature and the variable nature of the coast they vary in format around the country. Some groups such as the Liverpool Bay Coastal Group recognized the need to co-operate across political boundaries prior to SMPs, this group is also one of the few to involve Councillors directly in the groups activities.

Within the North West and North Wales area there are three coastal groups:

Liverpool Bay Coastal Group covering the area from Llandudno to the Ribble Estuary.

Tidal Dee Coastal Group specifically covering the interests of the Dee.

North West Coastal Group covering the area from the Ribble Estuary to the Solway.

A further sub-group exists which is referred to as the Cell 11 working party, this group is open to representatives of any of the coastal groups and attempts to co-ordinate issues of interest to all the groups.
