Rock Armour as a Coastal Defence

The main difference between rock armour and seawalls is that rock armour is permeable. It is this permeability that allows it to dissapate the energy of storm waves and prevent erosion. A similar effect may be created through the use of precast concrete units that are designed to be permeable. Examples of rock armour can be seen at Seaforth docks and on the River Mersey. Precast concrete units can be seen in use at Blackpool where they are used in combination with seawalls. Rock Armour at Crosby
