Swimming

Swimming and paddling in the sea is a popular pastime especially during the summer heatwaves. Beaches at Ainsdale and Southport are designated as a bathing beach.

  • Swim only in designated bathing areas marked by the Red and Yellow stripped flags. *Red only flags mean do not swim*

  • Airbeds and Dinghies should not be used on the sea

  • Don't swim straight after a meal

  • Look out for advice on notice boards at the beach entrance

  • It is safer to swim parallel to the shore where standing depth is nearby

  • Always swim in groups of at least 3 or 4 people

  • Children should't swim or paddle without an adult

  • The lifeguards patrol the beaches on foot and in vehicles, look out for them in their red and yellow uniforms, they will be happy to help with queries that you may have.
